Her father is a novelist and famous author of many popular books. He disapproves of Shin-chan's love for his daughter though they both band together in keeping an eye on her. Her best friend is Shinobu Kandadori, with whom she concurrently lives in a city flat. In the manga her hair color is brown, but in the anime it is black. She is named after Nanako Matsushima.
