Before his time on Special Victims Unit, Baer worked on the television series ER. Baer was promoted to executive producer for the seventh season of ER. The seventh season was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2001 awards marking Baer's fifth consecutive nomination for the award. Baer left ER following the seventh season having been a producer for five seasons and with eighteen episodes as a writer.
