He played junior hockey for the Weyburn Red Wings from 1963 to 1965 and then joined the Canadian National Team. Mott played for Canada in the 1966, 1967, and 1969 World Championships and won a bronze medal at the 1968 Olympics. When the team broke up Mott went to Queens University to continue his education and played for the Queen's Golden Gaels from 1970 to 1972. In the NHL he played 199 games and scored 18 goals and 32 assists.
