Rovers played their eighth League One match of the 2009-10 season against Brentford on 19 September 2009. Going in to the game Rovers were flying high in the league, sitting in third place behind Charlton Athletic and Leeds United with five wins and two defeats in their previous seven games. Brentford earned a consolation goal in the second half and the game ended in a 3–1 victory to the Pirates, keeping them in third place in League One.
