Sidney Burgess was the brother-in-law of Ernie Bishop and married to his sister Edie. A moaning hypochondriac, he constantly whined about his back, stomach and all manner of ailments whilst at the same time being a penny-pinching liar who tried to fleece money off anyone he could while supposedly enjoying a good income from his greengrocer's shop in Barrow-in-Furness. Their daughter, Freda Burgess, managed to keep on good terms with Aunt Emily and visited her several times many years later.
