The Free Corps were a controversial regiment of the Border Legion that was in operation during the time of the Druid Allanon. They were considered the Legion's shock unit and their men were considered expendable. Serving in the Free Corps was a matter of pride for its men, who gained an identity that set them apart from any other soldier in the Four Lands. Its soldiers were the first into battle, and the first to die, with their casualty rate by far the highest in the Legion. It was considered a given that Free Corps soldiers would die in battle.
