A shoulderman was a warlock and a shoulderwoman was a witch. The plural could be shoulderfolk or shouldermen and shoulderwomen. The Barghast sometimes called them shoulder-seers. The name came from the shamans' use of animal shoulder bones as tools of divination. The fresh bone of a deer or antelope was placed on a brazier of hot coals and then the resulting maze of cracks was interpreted by the shaman. The shaman could also converse with the spirit of the animal until the fire damage was too great and the spirit released. One use for such a reading was locating wild herds for the tribe's hunters.
