The drain in the user's chakra is not determined by the damage output of techniques used against it, but the amount of time it stays active. If the user's chakra capacity is large, they can keep it active for extended periods of time, however if there isn't enough chakra to power it, it will deactivate without their consent and leave them vulnerable to physical damage.
