Pillars of the Sky was the second leg of the Dragonbane circuit. While the previous leg, The Long Run, was clear and smooth, enabling high speeds, this leg took the swoop racers through a dangerous swamp. The natural obstacles, in addition to traps set up by the Black Seraphs, were dead trees, shaped like fingers and colored like bones. Racers were forced to slalom through the trees at high speed, and it was very dangerous.
