NCC-585 was the registry number of a Federation Hermes-class scout that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-23rd century. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock) The registry, like the class, was originally derived from the Star Fleet Technical Manual. According to that manual, NCC-585 was named the USS Hermes and was the prototype of the Hermes-class of Federation starships.
