The tactics of the Iraqi insurgency vary widely. Minority Jihadist elements use car bombs, kidnappings, hostage-taking, shootings and other types of attacks to target Iraqi collaborators and U.S. forces with little regard for civilian casualties. US Government data show that, since 2004, an average of 74% of all insurgent attacks are directed against occupation forces with only 10% directed against civilians.[citation needed] All of the following methods of attack are designed to allow insurgent teams to strike quickly and escape detection afterwards.
