The county in England to the south of Shropshire, of similar rural terrain, and like it bordering onto Wales. The county town was at the city of Hereford, which lies on the road that runs from Shrewsbury, through Church Stretton, and Ludlow, about 13 leagues (40 miles / 64km) south of Church Stretton.
