Gargoyles was an animated Disney cartoon that ran in the mid-1990s, and followed the adventures of six noble beings known as gargoyles, who are stone statues by day, becoming flesh and blood when the sun goes down. The gargoyles lived peacefully as pagan idols in Scotland until lost in the court battle Scots v. Vikings. After living in a castle in the late tenth century they were put under a spell of sleep and brought to the Vatican to complement the Greco-Roman gods in the bathrooms. The gargoyles were than stolen in the early nineties by Carmen Sandiego and sold at auction to David Xanatos along with her fleet of UNESCO site stealing helicopters.
