Maura was the pet dog of Lieutenant junior grade Aquiel Uhnari. Maura was named after a character from the book Cold Moon Over Blackwater. She disappeared in 2369 when her body was absorbed by an unusually large coalescent organism, which then took on her form. (TNG: "Aquiel" ) Maura was played by Friday, a terrier mix, who was trained by Rob Bloch and LuJean Rose of Critters of the Cinema. The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 27) stated that Maura was killed by the organism.
