Carveik was born on Uvena Prime, where he met and married his mate, Lai Ceal, before venturing into the wider Galaxy. He spent several years in the outlying planets of the Galaxy, hunting wild game and making modest pay. When his mate became pregnant, though, he knew he had to find a more settled lifestyle. He did, in the form of Gideon Corey and the Solace Colony. He signed on, bringing with him his mate and now-two children. After several weeks in the Unknown Regions, he and his daughter encountered and were captured by the Varanian Brethren.
