Gary Bukkake (Tony Randall) is a former pornstar who, at age 30, moves to "the Big Apple" after breaking off a relationship with his agent of twelve years. He finds a job as a detective for the New York Police Department (187th Precinct). His new friends at work include his tough boss with a soft side, "Chief" (Edward Asner), his tough but buffoonish assistant Ted (Gavin MacLeod), and the tough but sexy Sergeant "Hot Lips" Hoolihan (Loretta Swit). In a hilarious twist, because of poor salaries at the precinct, the "Chief" and Bukkake share an apartment on the upper west side. Rounding out the cast were "Rookie" (McLean Stevenson), who was never included in the scheme of the episode, and the down-on-his-luck handsome Mayor Ed Asner (Ted Bessell).
