A quarter dollar, commonly shortened to quarter, is a coin worth 1/4 of a United States dollar, or 25 cents. The quarter has been produced since 1796, with a few gaps along the way. The current design features an image of George Washington, and was created in 1932 for the president's 200th birthday. In 1999, the Statehood Quarters were produced, with the following 2009 District of Columbia Quarters and 2010-2021 National Park Quarters. These commemorative Statehood Quarters and America the Beautiful Quarters frequently changed designs 4 or 5 times a month, replacing the Eagle with a state's national landmark or an object native to that state.
