These devices are half dirigible and half ornithopter with bat-like wings. They are used as lifeboats by the passengers and crewmembers of crashing or sinking dirigibles. In this illusration they are being used by the Wulfenbach Students to return to Castle Wulfenbach from the dirigible they had been transferred to during the evacuation made necessary by the activation of the Hive engine brought aboard the castle from Beetleburg.
