A long time ago, Tobizaru was captured by dogs and nearly killed when the baboon general, Shougun came to his aid. Shougun killed all the dogs and Tobizaru joined him, impressed by the baboon's power. He betrays his fellow monkeys for Shougun and tries to capture the baby monkey Pepe to bring him as food for Shougun. He crawls down a cliff from which Shougun is hanging to give him the axe. This was his plot to strike at Shougun when he thinks Tobizaru is on his side; but unfortunately, Shougun knew that Tobizaru had switched sides, and gorged him with the axe.
