The Most Serene Republic of Venice (Venetian: Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta), colloquially known as Venice (Vèneto), is a sovereign state located in Southern Europe. The nation comprises of several exclaves along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, with its core being located at within the Po Valley of the northern Italian Peninsula. Venice borders Austria and Switzerland to the north; Croatia, Greece, and Serbia to the east; San Marino and Sicily to the south; and Milan, Modena, and Tuscany to the west.
