The 1986 Miller High Life 400 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Richmond International Raceway on February 23, 1986. Kyle Petty avoided a late crash. In the most famous moment of the Darrell Waltrip-Dale Earnhardt rivalry, Earnhardt crashed Waltrip as they raced for the win. Petty avoided crash and suddenly emerged from the smoke in the lead. He would spend the next three laps leading under caution and earned his first career victory.
