The First Justice was the second in command of the twelve justices in the Supreme Court of the Old Republic. As such, the First Justice was in charge of all the things the Chief Justice left behind. The First Justice also was in charge of all other justices and the other Courts. The First Justice was presumably nominated by the Galactic Senate and confirmed by the Chief Justice. The First Justice was replaced by the Second Justice of the New Republic Court of Justice.
