An extra damage type item property gives a weapon an additional damage type. This makes the weapon more effective in bypassing damage resistance and damage immunity, but it does not alter the amount of damage delivered by a hit. That is, after the damage has been calculated (including determining what stacks), the damage is affected by the lower of the immunities for the weapon's normal damage type and the item property's, then by the lower of the damage resistances.
