Lan Hikari is a ten-year-old boy who lives in the year 200X. Everyone has their own personal humanoid programs called "NetNavis". NetNavis are used for several purposes, like run programs and hunt viruses. Lan and his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, are some of the best net-battlers in their neighborhood. Now they must use their skills to defeat evil net mafias. The manga tells a different version of the stories told in the anime and video games, but still retain some major plot points and devices used in them.
