Tamar Proust, also known as Tam, was a human refugee during the Forerunner Conflicts of the the 26th century. The daughter of one of the leading experts in Forerunner studies, she was orphaned when her mother was killed during the destruction of Talitsa. Hunted by Insurrectionist agents for reasons unknown to her, Tamara fled into the galactic frontier and eventually became a part of "the Caravan," a motley collection of refugee ships eking out a living on the fringes of known space.
