Royal Team was a United Nations Space Command special operations squad-sized unit. Like its sister team, Royal Team was composed of SPARTAN-IIs and SPARTAN-IIIs, with two of the former and three of the latter as of 2552. Near the closing of the Human-Covenant War, Royal served in the battles of Reach and Earth and contributed spectacularly to the war effort. Their most notable feat, however, was the Battle of Sigma Oceanus II, where they led a company of Shock Troopers against overwhelming Covenant opposition and came out victorious after recapturing a vital depot.
