A cello player, more formally known as a cellist, was a musician who played the cello. Miles O'Brien's father Michael wanted his son to be a cello player and made him practice every day. In 2345, Michael sent a recorded audition to the Aldebaran Music Academy on behalf of Miles, which earned him admission into the program. Miles wanted to be in Starfleet, however, enrolling two days before he was to leave for the music school. Though initially angry that his son had done this, Michael ultimately was proud of Miles.
