Bell Hopping is an unofficial and fan-made technique which involves digging with the Golden Shovel in empty spaces without cracks, Shining Spots, rocks or flowers. On occasion, 100 bell bags will be dug up. As this hidden feature of the Golden Shovel is only in the GCN versions, it can only be used in such games. There is no limit to the money found, and multiple bags can be dug up in the same acre. Accumulating money this way is considered rather time consuming but is a suitable income if the player has no access to a net, fishing rod, or other source.
