The House of Commons is a democratically elected body consisting of 300 members known as Members of Parliament (MPs). Members are elected by simple majority ('first-past-the-post' system) in each of the country's electoral districts called ridings. Each Member of Parliament holds their seat until Parliament is dissolved. Seats in the Commons are distributed evenly based on population.
