The Secretary worked at Weatherfield Register Office and was on duty on the day of Curly Watts and Raquel Wolstenhulme's wedding in December 1995. Prior to the service, the Secretary was surprised to find Raquel crying in the ladies' toilets and was overheard by Curly, telling the Assistant Registrar that she had just seen a girl "sobbing her heart out". Nevertheless, Raquel pulled herself together and went ahead with the ceremony, and the Secretary acted as a witness, along with an unknown man, recruited by the Assistant Registrar, since the couple had invited no guests to their big day.
