In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, giant insects have been a frequent motif dating back to the original edition of the game. Oversized counterparts of regular, real-life insects are vermin present in many settings. These may range from the size of a dog to the size of a house. Giant versions of ants, bees, beetles, centipedes, mantises, scorpions, spiders (monstrous spiders, giant spiders), and wasps are all fairly common, and other types may exist as well. These animals exhibit the same behavior as their smaller counterparts. They do not speak any humanoid languages, although they can still communicate with others of the same species. The majority of the giant insect varieties are neutral in alignment.
