Halogaland is the northernmost land in the known world and is known to be freezing cold. The Halogai who inhabit the country revere their own pantheon of gods and delight in battle. It is customary for a Videssian Emperor to have Halogai bodyguards as they are above traditional Videssian politics and intrigues. Haloga who are not bodyguards are often either traders or pirates. They battle afoot and wield giant axes and wear their hair long in braids. It was Haloga pirates who seized the Videssian island province of Kalavria and created the Duchy of Namdalen, aping many Videssian ways.
