The Egyptians are a playable civ in the third game vanilla. They are led by Cleopatra, who is not really native Egyptian, but of Macedonian Greek descent. She was an Egyptian Queen though. In Civilization IV she is replaced by Ramesses II and Hapshepsut, possibly for this reason.
