Hjörtr is a ragged and tired Daeva whose relatively young appearance, the mid-thirties, belies his half century of service within the Second Legion as a centurion. To the average soldier, he is considered something of a slave driver, pushing the standards with which the men under his command must conform to almost ridiculous heights. While the common soldier holds little love for Hjörtr, the Centurions hold him in esteem, as the men will often fight harder to avoid his wrath.
