António da Silva Osório Braga Soares Carneiro, OA ComI GCTE (born January 25, 1928 in Custóias, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Portugal; ) is a Portuguese retired military officer and former politician. A General in the Portuguese Army, he was Governor of a southern province of Portuguese Angola at the time of the Carnation Revolution which deposed the Estado Novo 25 April 1974. Soares Carneiro later served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, under the presidency of Mário Soares.
