Random Pierce is a petty criminal who appears in Under the Gun. He was a client of the murder victim Deon Carver and had a dispute with him the night before he died. Pierce had a hearing the following morning, but did not show up. The team then travels to the last known address of Pierce, but he flees at the last moment out of the window. Castle and Beckett pursue him, but they are overtaken by a car that hits Pierce. The driver is Mike Royce, Beckett's old training officer from the NYPD, who now works as a bounty hunter, and has followed Pierce.
