Helmuth Otto Ludwig Weidling (2 November 1891 – 17 November 1955) was a German career soldier who became a general in the Wehrmacht before and during the Second World War. Weidling was the last commander of the Berlin's defences against Soviet forces, finally surrendering just before the end of the European war. The Soviets convicted Weidling of mass murders of Russian civilians, and he died in a Russian prison.
