The Traveller came to the Emerald Hill Zone offering a gift to Sonic the Hedgehog: a monitor device that would grant him "mega-coolness beyond belief". Sonic wasn't stupid enough to fall for such an obvious trick... but Tails was. He leapt onto the device - an Inter-Zone Exchanger - which teleported him to the Misery Zone and brought a monster from there to Emerald Hill. The Mysterious Traveller admitted that he was in fact one of Dr. Robotnik's agents and observed Sonic's futile struggle against the monster. Sonic decided that if his attacks wouldn't work on the monster, then he'd send it back through the portal device. The Traveller commanded the monster to unleash its Apocalypse Blast and destroy the entire Zone, but as it did so it was sucked through the portal that Sonic threw at it.
