Biological science droids were one of the three primary subgroups of first-degree droids, along with physical science droids and mathematics droids. Biological science droids were designed for and tasked with the study of biological life in the galaxy. The widely-used medical droid group was in fact a subgroup of biological science droids, but due to their prominence they were often listed separately in droid catalogs.
