Oluf was a regular army sergeant assigned to Haven during the Scanran War. He had a penchant for mistreating the convict soldiers and seemed to think that Keladry of Mindelan's softness to them was a female weakness. Oluf was killed by a sword slash across his chest while defending the refugees of Haven during the final Scanran attack on the camp in May 460.
