Onryou wander the mortal plane with lingering resentments for the living, jealous of their flesh and desiring it for their own. So long as their displeasure remains they cannot and will not leave their haunting spot. The intensity of their grudges and their unyielding hatred are the main reasons why they are often found in horror stories throughout Japan.
