Serving Sage City under Sheriff Sam Peters, Deputy Cross has the unfortunate task of sending a telegram to Two-Gun Lil Peters that her father is dead. When Lil returns to Sage City to search for her father's killers, Bob tells her it was likely a henchman of Garson Cade. When Cade discovers the reasons for Lil's return, he conspires with his henchman Bunco to eliminate her. Lil elicits a public confession from Bunco, who says it was Cade who killed her father. Lil suggests Deputy Cross will be the new sheriff, but he says he'd rather serve as her deputy when she is made sheriff.
