Because of her Force sensitivity, when Karana was just an infant, she was taken from her family to be trained as an agent for Palpatine. When her parents resisted, they were shot and killed by stormtroopers. As a precaution, Palpatine erased her memory, and placed a new one. One that made him her father, to ensure she would be loyal.
