The LFU's history can be traced back to the 1879 revolution after the creation of the New Foundation Party, an umbrella party for republicans and anti-monarchists. A group of conservatives split from the NFP in 1930 and formed the Lurberan Family Party, which was established to represent Lurberan family values during a period of social liberalization which coincided with a rise of Murserism. The LFP adopted an anti-Murserist stance which increased its popularity, resulting in several important wins in the House of Delegates. The LFP disbanded after the 1978 Irlabat secession attempt and re-formed as the Lurberan Family Union. Critics argue this move was to dodge a promise it made to Murserist Represented not to introduce legislation that targets Murserists.
