Starting as a fairly generic sci-fi movie, Creepozoids of the Crab Nebula was only part way through production when it was shelved—mostly due to technical difficulties with the animatronic Creepozoid. At the advice of his public relations agent Mitch Keno director Rollie Friendly sought out the mysterious Skullgrin, hiring him to be the film's main antagonist. The plot was reworked to include the previous leads Jake Colton and Carissa Carr and their characters Brick and Celestia, but other than the names and basic premise, it is unknown what other similarities exist.
