In 1938, Professor Henry Jones smashed a 14th century-dated Ming vase over the head of his son – who had come to rescue him from Castle Brunwald – mistaking him for one of his Nazi captors. To his relief, the artifact was revealed to be a forgery as indicated by the vase's cross section. Indy was startled as his father then threw the fake vase against the wall, fearing that the noise made would attract the attention of the Nazis. A year later, Indiana Jones would come across a genuine example of Ming Dynasty pottery.
