The jump tubes of the Christa provide ways to get from one level of the ship to another. All main rooms have both exit and entrance jump tubes. One has to dial a code into a control panel in order to send them to the room they want. The jump tubes work with pneumatics, using air to push people and sometimes objects through the tubes. This may be why members of the crew look so alarmed riding through them; Lumanians, a bird-type species, are probably more used to dealing with high winds.
