The Canadian Army is not an independent service; rather it is the land component of Canada's integrated defence forces known as the Canadian Armed Forces. The Canadian Army is commanded from Canadian Army Headquarters at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa and is subdivided into five divisions as of July 2013: * 1st Canadian Division * 2nd Canadian Division (formerly Land Force Quebec Area ) * 3rd Canadian Division (formerly Land Force Western Area ) * 4th Canadian Division (formerly Land Force Central Area ) * 5th Canadian Division (formerly Land Force Atlantic Area )
