Maggie is depressed by Quentin's absence. Roger pointedly reminisces about how joyful last year's costume ball had been in Angelique's presence. Maggie gets up without saying a word and leaves the room. Later that night, Hoffman and Angelique celebrate having ruined the party at Maggie and Quentin's expense. Hoffman admits she almost feels sorry for Maggie. As the two continue talking, they hear footsteps in the hallway and realize that someone has entered the East Wing.
