First storm formed Last storm dissipated Strongest storm Total depressions Total storms Hurricanes Major hurricanes Total damages Total fatalities The 2016 Pacific Hurricane Season was a well below average season that followed the near record-breaking 2015 season. It featured just 9 named storms, 3 hurricanes, and 1 major hurricane that formed in the East Pacific basin. The Central Pacific also featured two tropical storms, neither one reaching hurricane intensity. Due to a strong La Nina event, wind shear shifted from the Atlantic to Pacific, greatly inhibiting the Pacific's development conditions. This season did not feature any storms making landfall at all, so no names were retired.
